No more acute attacks

14-06-2016

After years of stress and chronic hyperventilation complaints and many therapies (physiotherapy, psychotherapy, speech therapy, high sensitivity coach, etc.) I got burnout symptoms in December 2015. I continued with it for a while. My doctor thought I wasn’t getting enough challenges and thought I was ‘too smart’ for the psychologists, so I didn’t get much advice what I could do to stop this.

In April 2016 it got even worse and I was again severely affected by acute hyperventilation - especially at night - and I had couldn’t take it anymore, both physically and mentally. My family then made a decision to take me out of my family (with young children) and rest at my sister for 3 weeks. After some googling my sister found the Del Ferro Institute. That appealed to both of us. I thought if I learn a technique for dealing with hyperventilation, I might get more rest and less stress symptoms. In combination with mental care, I thought it was the right match. How to get to Amsterdam from Lochem was a mystery to me at the time. That was also impossible for my sister (besides her work) and I did see myself in a car for such a long ride. My body was stiff with stress and was shaking. In consultation, Ingrid could come to me the first time. That was a great solution for me, otherwise I would not have succeeded. So I was very happy with that service at home.

After 1.5 hours of training I started working with the technique. After a few days I was a bit unsure about the exercises. 3 days after the first instruction, I went by train to Amsterdam and walked there from the station to the Del Ferro Institute. I had a session and went back by train. Beforehand I was very scared and I had my doubts whether it would work. But I did it! Not that everything was great after that. It went well, with ups and downs, but I could quite manage the acute hyperventilation when I felt it coming up. I have not had any acute attacks since the 1st training, I felt it coming up but could avert it.

But one thing is certain. If that first breath training had not been at home, I probably would not have progressed in this process and would not have come into contact with the Del Ferro method.

Annemarie
